Bonus vs free bet
A bonus balance often behaves like a separate wallet: you must turn it over (bet it multiple times) before it becomes withdrawable cash. A classic free bet token may pay winnings in a simpler way but still carries market and expiry rules.
Matched bettors care because playthrough can force extra volume — and extra commission — that eats the edge if the multiplier is steep.
Typical clauses
- Wagering multiple e.g. 3×, 5×, 10× the bonus amount on eligible markets.
- Minimum odds per leg while clearing the rollover.
- Time caps: complete in 7/14/30 days or forfeit.
- Weighting: some product types (casino vs sport) count differently or not at all.
Practical approach
Model the expected loss per unit turned over at close-to-neutral prices, multiply by required turnover, and compare to the headline bonus. If the rollover is huge relative to the bonus, the promo may be negative expectancy for your style.
